Mucho Melon Madness

  • Mood:
  • Fictions: Widow of the South by Robert Hicks
I tried to write yesterday, but my computer was acting weird or the Internet was, so I had to give it up! But the Melon Party was a big success--I'll try to post a photo when Jim downloads them. We had several people show up in period dress--I had gone for a 'medium' look and was really surprised when the neighbors showed up in knickers, long skirts, and parasols! They looked adorable though, and we had 40-50 people turn out for the event. The back yard looked so cute with the Chinese lanterns and we even found a hammock--though I don't think anyone ever sat in it!! The bad part was I didn't get to visit with people that much, because I kept having to run to the kitchen for more drinks! It was HOT out, but could have been worse. The yard is shady and we had plenty of cool drinks and WATERMELON! It was really a nice evening with friends and neighbors, and a wonderful way to remember the Jamesons. Bill Jameson even came for a bit, and we had a Harris carving the melon, just like they did in 1886! Several descendants of families attended. Really cool!

Then we had another murder mystery dinner last night, but luckily it was at the Loganberry so we didn't have to do anything but show up and play our parts. Although that's a lot, and I was exhausted by the end of the evening. Then today all the guests checked out, but 3 more are checking IN, so we had all the rooms to do! Needless to say it's been a BUSY weekend!!

I did manage to spend part of the afternoon putting a new file cabinet that I bought into my office and clearing out some files. It's wooden and looks much better than what I had before...also has a nice botton shelf for stacking stuff that frees up some space elsewhere! My office is starting to look like a junk shop with all the stuff I'm working on for the Labor Day Sale--which is coming up SOON, so I need to make sure I have plenty of inventory!! Hope we have a nice turnout for it...

Alas, tomorrow begins another week. I'm going to St. Louis on Wed/Thurs--partly auction but also to visit with Fanny again. Can't wait!!! I love chatting with her. She knows so many great stories, and I'll get to sleep in "General Drake's Mistake"--Bettie Jameson's bedroom suite! Very cool! So, I'll sign off with that and go prepare to meet guests again!
