I'm heading off to the big city again tomorrow for another auction, but mainly to visit my new friend Fanny and sleep in Bettie Jameson's infamous bed, "General Drake's Mistake." The story goes that Bettie was engaged to a Union general, Francis Drake of Drake University, and he gave her a rosewood bedroom set which was to be their bridal suite. Bettie decided to call off the engagement, but decided to keep the furniture!! Thus Fanny's parents, who inherited it, aptly named it "General Drake's Mistake!" Too funny! Can't wait to swap more stories with Fanny!
After doing my daily dose of work today, I went to a tea party at a woman who collects buttons here in Fulton! Had a great time--she has cards and cards of buttons, and even some from an old hardware store that was here in the 1800s! Very neat! She gave me a cute little box of buttons and loaned me some books to read. Another friend of hers is a collector too, so I hope I'll have other to share and swap with!!
I forgot to mention a friend of mine died this week, Bob Hill, an older man who I attended a writing group with in Arlington, Texas for over 10 years. Bob was a great guy and last year we published an anthology which included his works, Writers Choice. If you get a chance, please visit my Lulu.com site and
check it out!
Anyway, that's it's for my day, and since I have to rise and shine nice and early, I'm going to keep this short!
